Getting your BIM file AR-ready

Downloading & placing TruScope QR Anchors into your Revit model.

In order to visualize your 3D BIM files in the field, you’ll need to first prepare and upload them to the secure TruScope Cloud. Please note that this version of TruScope only supports Revit files.

STEP 1: DOWNLOAD THE QR ANCHORS

The files must include the TruScope QR codes within the Revit file itself. These are known as TruScope QR Anchors.

The TruScope QR Anchors help your Apple device process where the 3D model needs to be placed, as well as how the 3D image will render in response to your movements around it.

The Revit QR Anchor family required for your files can be downloaded directly from the app or from the TruScope Web Portal:

From the App

1. Log-in to your TruScope Dashboard.

2. Select the Project for which you'd like to prepare BIM files.

3. Go to TruScope Cloud and select QR Anchors from the tabs at the top of the page.

4. Download the QR Anchors to your local device and forward them to your BIM department.

From the TruScope Web Portal:

1. Log-in to your TruScope Web Portal Dashboard.

2. Select the Project for which you'd like to prepare BIM files.

3. Go to TruScope Cloud and select QR Anchors.

4. Download the QR Anchors and get ready to place them into your Revit file.

STEP 2: PLACE THE QR ANCHORS WITHIN YOUR REVIT FILE

Placing the QR Anchors would be a matter of personal/project discretion and needs, preferably driven by someone in the Field. We would suggest placing targets within the Revit model in any of the following places:

1. By entryways of the building, which will allow your Field team to activate the TruScope app on your device upon entering the building.

2. On known landmarks, such as structural columns, which are easy for the Field team to locate onsite.

Please see best options for QR Anchor placements marked in yellow in the drawing below.

Please note:

  • Placing these targets in the field will require drawings from the Revit file.
  • The same QR Anchors that are placed in the model must be printed and placed exactly the same in the Field environment.
  • For early Project phases, we recommend placing QR Anchors 5’-0” up on the center of a column for ease of use and to avoid foot traffic scuffing or tearing the QR Anchors.
  • Towards the end of the Project, we recommend moving the QR Anchors to the end of the door jambs, elevated to 5’-0” for easy viewing and to continue avoiding foot traffic.

The main rule here is the target in the field must be placed where it is in the model, and having a Field person direct BIM on placement as best practice.

STEP 3: UPLOAD TO TRUSCOPE CLOUD

Once your Revit model is fully loaded with strategically-placed QR Anchors, upload the file to the TruScope Cloud using either the Web Portal or the TruScope App. Your Field team will be ready to view and interact with the model in Augmented Reality via the TruScope Viewer as soon as the corresponding QR Anchors have been placed onsite.
